Following the release of his new single, Brand New Moon with Madison McFerrin (already supported by DJs at CBC Music, and NTS Radio), Toronto producer Paul Chin delivers a music video to accompany the wavy R&B anthem of revolution. Shot and produced in Los Angeles, by Kin – a production studio helmed by Bloc LA choreographer Justin Conte – the visual sees the tables turn on capitalist powers embodied, as a "billionaire" exiled into a world where his wealth has been made worthless, while a goddess of liberation forces him to account for his impact on the world before dancing amidst flames as he is made into effigy.
Director's Note from Justin Conte
Brand New Moon is a timeless and emotional visual that captures the “Exile” of a male presenting character. This character represents the patriarchal man and all of the reckless billionaires running/ ruining planet Earth. It is a playful (yet real) exploration in turning the tables of wealth, perception and power.
Paul’s inspiration for the song really dictated the energy of the film. The fact that billionaires are engaging in a space race (aka pissing contest) to see who can escape this dying planet provided the fuel for the theme. The flame became the ones left behind.
We introduced the Woman in the film as a sort of “god-like” figure. She represents Madison’s angelic voice as well as the people generating the abundance, culture, and art billionaires feed off of (the ones left behind). She invites the Man to see, reflect and repent.
The paper mask was inspired, firstly, by money and how it is simply paper. Also, I wanted to explore the theme of leading with heart and creativity rather than mind and logic - thus, the Man’s headless, reflective journey through the world he has created.
All and all, my team and I wanted to ignite inspiration for a new world, where the lies, deceit and induced fear are washed away. A colorful, hopeful and self-aware place where creativity and individuality thrive, reinventing the perception of “wealth”.
