Project Brief
Autodesk Fusion Production combines production scheduling, job tracking, and machine monitoring by using cloud computing and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) for smart manufacturing.
As the industry has entered the information age, the demand for production based on data-driven insight has grown in manufacturing. With no industry standard shop management tools previously available, production managers struggled to keep up with the day-to-day responsibilities of overseeing and responding to activity on the shop floor, as well as ensuring the needs of multiple stakeholders are met on time.
Manufacturing as an industry is a finely-tuned machine wherein production managers and machine operators work to increase productivity. Each shop’s workflows and have been cemented, and the idiosyncrasies of each machine has been internalised over years of experience. What our users asked for in Fusion Production was a single unified tool to close the gaps between design, manufacturing, and shop floor management, while utilising more reliable data to improve efficiency.
“
The ability to capture and feed back data to different areas of the production process really resonated with the customers that I spoke to — it’s something they’ve struggled to do before with a single tool.
Sanjay Thakore, Product Marketing Manager at Autodesk
The industry challenges in manufacturing revealed through months of ongoing user research informed our value propositions of connectedness, complete insight, and immediacy. A single, unified, cloud-connected tool offers our users real-time visibility into production, the necessary data to make decisions, and improve operational efficiency.
Fusion Production currently offers full job tracking and operation recording via mobile and web-based apps, the latter also allowing full access to production scheduling, machine monitoring, and generation of detailed utilisation reports. As one of the first products to pilot and co-develop Autodesk’s new Human Interface Guidelines, it’s also helping define a new and consistent UX for industrial tools that’s both beautiful and intelligent.
“
We are constantly trying to find the most efficient and cost effective way of doing business. We like software that is quick, easy, reliable, and affordable. Fusion Production – combined with Fusion 360 – allows us to easily integrate CAD and CAM data to create the part with the processes, procedures, and schedule of day to day operations of a job shop in one seamless flow.
Brian Lagrange, CAD Manager at Mezco Fabrication
Fusion Production is an exercise in iterative user-centred design. Each new feature implemented is the result of ongoing user research, testing, prototyping, feedback, and revision. Simplifying and centralising the shop-floor experience not only improves the user’s experience of utilising their own data, but also incentivises them to integrate Autodesk’s other manufacturing products into their workflow for an even tighter design & production pipeline.
